A powerful weapon against falls, ONR Includes the Otago exercise program in their treatment regimen.

What is Otago?

  • The Otago Exercise Program (Otago) is an evidence-based, balance and strength fall prevention program
  • Otago began in New Zealand and was developed, tested, and demonstrated to be most effective for reducing falls and fall-related injuries among high-risk individuals:
  • adults more than 80 years of age
  • those who have had a previous fall within one calendar year.

Evidence-based fall reduction programs for high-risk older adults can produce a net-cost savings of almost nine dollars for each dollar invested.

Programs designed to prevent falls can:

Save hospital admission and long-term care costs
Help older adults living in communities maintain their independence
Help older adults increase their leg strength and improve their balance.
